Install Python

STEP 1

Editor and Python - different programs

VS Code helps to write code, and Python does it. Install Python separately or check that it already exists.

✦ Once installed, open the new terminal to see Python.

STEP 2

Add extension

On the left in VS Code, open Extensions, find Python from Microsoft and install it. Then select the interpreter using the command Python: Select Interpreter.

✦ Extension alone does not establish an interpreter.

Practice

Check Python with py -3 --version on Windows or python3 --Zversion on macOS/Linux. Then install the Python extension in VS Code and find the selected interpreter.
